To make mitzvot accessible to people who may have little experience with them, the Rebbe introduced 10 mitzvah campaigns in the 1960’s and ‘70’s. These ten can be considered “gateway” mitzvot -- simple, easy to perform, and yet powerful manifestations of the fusion of the finite and the infinite. Each of these mitzvot illustrates a different aspect of healing the essential conflict in creation.
Following the Rebbe’s introduction of these mitzvah campaigns, “mitzvah tanks” became a familiar sight in the streets of Manhattan and other cities around the world. These campers emblazoned with mitzvah banners brought “mitzvos on the spot for people on the go,” further underscoring the theme of taking the most intense, profound Divine lights and bringing them into physical form in the most unexpected places.
The laws of kosher define foods that are fit for consumption for a Jew. This includes which animals are consumed, how food is prepared, and more.
